We've Got the Meats! (Some of them)

Image
There are a lot of outdated laws given in the Old Testament. Don’t commit adultery? I mean, come on! What sort of a dinosaur society would have a law like this? Luckily, in our modern and enlightened age, this isn’t an issue, and we are free to run around and sleep with whomever we want, provided that they consent, of course. Paul addressed another set of laws in 1st Timothy dealing with food. 1 Timothy 4:3-5 NKJV forbidding to marry, [and commanding] to abstain from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth.  4 For every creature of God [is] good, and nothing is to be refused if it is received with thanksgiving;  5 for it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.   Here, Paul clearly says that God created all meats clean and to be eaten, including pork. Why would Paul even need to clarify this? You see, in the backward days of the Old Testament, the Jews had somehow gotten the idea that there were certain m...

Five Verses That Show God's Law Is Still In Effect Today!

Image
There has been a lot of discussion in the circles I frequent about the law of God and whether or not it is still in effect. Here are five verses that conclusively prove that the law of God is still in effect today. #1 Romans 2:22-24 NKJV You who say, "Do not commit adultery," do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples?  23 You who make your boast in the law, do you dishonor God through breaking the law?  24 For "the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you," as it is written. Romans was written to the mainly non-Jewish congregation in Rome, which makes this section especially interesting. Notice in verse twenty-four, Paul is getting on their case for being hypocrites, saying, “Do not commit adultery” while they are committing adultery themselves. Obviously, it’s a bad thing to commit adultery, so what Paul is getting on them for is not them saying it’s wrong; it’s the fact that they are doing it themselves. This brings us to v...

Breaking! God's Law Has Been Abolished...!?

Image
Breaking! There is a troubling section in Galatians that says that the Law of God, also known as the Law of Moses, is done away with. Why would this be troubling? Doesn’t Christianity agree that His law was abolished? Wasn’t it nailed to the cross and all that? The troubling part is that for many years God’s people have faithfully kept His commandments and observed His set times according to the order Christ set forth from the beginning of time. Could generations of God’s people and Christ Himself be wrong?  When looking at any issue involving the Bible, we have to start at the beginning with what has already been established. Paul, the other apostles, and Christ Himself all affirm multiple times that the law shall never pass away until everything is fulfilled. What law? The law that is called a burden, of course. In speaking of the Pharisees and the law, Jesus says, Matthew 23:4 ASV Yea, they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders; but ...
