Attention All Fairytale Things!

Are you struggling with pronouns like a confused penguin? Fear not, my friend! As a seasoned wordsmith and Bible buff (not to brag, but I have written a couple of posts. Hehe), let me guide you through the treacherous waters of pronoun use. Trust me; you'll be pronouning like a pro in no time! So sit back, grab some popcorn, and hang on as we dive into the not-so-wild world of pronouns and remove your confused penguin look.

The first thing to straighten out is the question that might be on everyone’s mind. What is a pronoun? Well, quite simply, it is a noun that has lost its amateur status. It has gone pro. Having gone pro, it is now a word that stands in for a noun. Like nouns, pronouns refer to people, things, concepts, or places. Most sentences contain at least one noun or pronoun. A pronoun can serve as the subject or object in a sentence, and it will usually refer back (or sometimes forward) to an antecedent—the noun that the pronoun stands in for. Pronouns are used to avoid the need to repeat the same nouns over and over. Thus pronouns are decided based upon what the noun and the person is, not what it wants to be. This makes figuring out which pronoun to use very easy indeed because they don’t change.

You can tell someone’s education level by the way they use pronouns. Most people alive today have apparently not gone beyond the kindergarten level. Often, feeling shame at their lack of education, these people will demand that you ignore your education and descend to their level of ineducation and use the pronouns that they demand. Feeling sorry for them, like poor helpless puppies, many people actually comply with these absurd demands.

Sadly, the reason that most of these people speak with a kindergarten-level education is that they have a severe mental illness that leads to a delusional view of reality. They believe themselves to be something other than what they are, and like a group of children playing pretend dress up, they go out in the world expecting everyone to get in on their little game. Unlike playing pretend, however, their little games have serious consequences in the real world, leading to all manner of perversion and public sinning. Because they cannot distinguish their imagination from reality, they believe that their imagination is, in fact, reality.

How does this relate back to pronouns and their correct usage? To put it simply, it is vital that we remember that we are dealing with mentally ill children. They don’t know their own identity, and in a search for it, they not only lost it completely, they have taken on a counterfeit one. These people are sick, and they desperately need the healing that Christ offers. They are broken and hurting sinners just as we once were. Their sin is far more serious in that it is rottenness to the bones of society, but it can still be repented of, and once repented, it can be forgiven. As followers of Christ, we are to show them the same concern and love that He has for them. This doesn’t mean accepting them as they are, but it does mean looking at them as fellow human beings with the potential to become sons and daughters of God. Broken and hurting people looking for healing.

Romans 5:8, 10 NKJV But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. ...

10 For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.

Romans 3:23 NKJV for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

2 Peter 3:9 NKJV The Lord is not slack concerning [His] promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.

Since we are to show love for them, does this mean that we should affirm their mental illness by using their preferred pronouns? Anyone can take any nickname they want, but pronouns aren’t chosen; they are assigned. Lying to someone and using their preferred pronoun strengthens their delusion and makes it much harder for them to repent and turn to God for the healing they so desperately need. What feels like showing love to us is, in fact, extremely damaging because it breaks the ninth commandment. We are bearing false witness to our fellow humans when we use the wrong pronouns or refer to those who are men as women or vice versa.

Exodus 20:16 NKJV "You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

One cannot change their pronouns any more than they can change their gender. God created men and women as men and women with only two genders. They are created in His image and as copies of His nature.

Genesis 1:27 NKJV So God created man in His [own] image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.

Satan has corrupted society into accepting the idea that God put people into the wrong bodies, and he has pressured the Church into affirming these mental illnesses. Pronoun misuse is pretty damaging to these people. If you don’t want confrontation, just avoid using pronouns altogether. Just don’t join their delusion by using the wrong ones.

Proverbs 26:4 NKJV Do not answer a fool according to his folly, Lest you also be like him.

I hope this has cleared up some of the confusion surrounding the whole pronoun issue, and I hope that you will now know how to use them correctly. So, let us go forth and spread the good news of grammar and the gospel! Let our 5th-grade educations shine through the fog of illiteracy like a beacon in the night, and let us speak the truth with confidence and clarity. Together, we can make the world a better place, one well-constructed sentence at a time.
